THREE Newport students are raising money for charity by taking part in a 2,000 mile race with the ultimate accessory – a kitchen sink.
Christian Britten, Richard Starkey and Adam Scott, students at the University of Wales, Newport, will take part in the epic race across Europe to the Atlas Mountains.
The documentary film students are aiming to raise £10,000 for the charity, Water for Africa.
The trio set off from Cardiff Castle on Saturday, June 19 and will have to travel more than 2,000 miles in just two weeks.
Mr Britten, 28, said: “We’ll be carrying the kitchen sink as a metaphor for the basic water infrastructure that is lacking in Africa.” They will also be making a film about their trip.
After finishing the race the students will travel to The Gambia and make a second film about how the money they will have raised will be put to use and the look at the lives it will change.
Fellow student Mr Starkey will be leading a different team and also using his film-making skills to document the journey.
“Everything we’ve learnt so far is going to be really useful when taking part in the race,” said the 31-year-old.
Funding the journey themselves, the trio will be updating their website and Facebook page at each checkpoint across Europe, including the Eiffel Tower and the Plaza Mayor in Madrid.
