The West Usk Lighthouse is a cosy bed & breakfast and small wedding venue (voted best in the region) situated near the City of Newport, Gwent, at the junction of the Severn and the Usk Estuaries which overlooks the Bristol Channel.
Built in 1821 by Scottish architect, James Walker, it is unique among lighthouses having all the accommodation situated within the building itself creating a distinctive design that is bigger in circumference and shorter in height. The interior tends to be described as quirky and comfortable rather than luxurious. All the rooms are wedge-shaped with en-suite facilities. We have a stone spiral staircase, which runs though the centre of the lighthouse and beneath that is the rain collecting well – which is now our wishing well and wine cellar! The entrance hall is slate bedded and at the bottom of the stairs we have our resident Dalek (with an interesting story) and a TARDIS on the roof (changing room for the hot tub). They are an added bonus for Doctor Who fans.
If you do stay with us, do not forget to have a dip in the hot tub situated the roof garden. It’s a wonderful spot to watch the sun go down (it is doubly nice with a glass of champagne). Please have a browse of our website and if you would like to stay with us then please book through the online booking system, by telephone on 01633 810126 or via email at info@westusklighthouse.co.uk.
Hope to see you soon!
